Stephen's biography of Ken Dodd was published on 15th September 2005 by Michael O'Mara Books, to mark the comedian's 50th anniversary as a professional entertainer, and Liverpool's success as European City of Culture.

A Radio Times Comedy award winner in 1987, Stephen was chosen to ghost-write Sir Norman Wisdom's autobiography.
