Philip Dart

Philip is the Artistic Director of the acclaimed, Arts Council funded Channel Theatre Company, for whom he has directed many successful national tours.

He has also worked as a freelance director for Pavilion Theatre and, on several occasions, for the English Theatre in Vienna for whom he has directed both main house and touring productions.

As a playwright/adapter Philip co-adapted The Mysteries at Canterbury Cathedral (published by Churchman) and adapted Jane Eyre (which toured nationally and was produced by Northampton Royal Theatre's touring company in 1998). He also adapted a new translation of Moliere's comedy The School for Wives (national tour, 1999); George Lillo's play The London Merchant, (national tour, 2002) and E Nesbit's classic children's novel The Phoenix and the Carpet, which toured nationally, to great acclaim, last year. This summer he adapted The Wind in the Willows, by Kenneth Grahame, for outdoor performance.

Philip adapted E Nesbit's classic children's novel "The Phoenix and the Carpet", which toured nationally, to great acclaim, last year.

Original scripts include The Greasepaint Troops and two plays for young people, Bottling Out and Sugar and Spice, both of which have toured the UK and Austria. He has also written the script of a successful children's Christmas show, The Great Christmas Tree Adventure, with music and lyrics by Julian Ronnie, and created scripts for various education and training films.

Philip's original adaptation of The Haunted Hotel by Wilkie Collins enjoyed great success when it toured to middle scale venues in 1993 and the two further tours of 2004 and 2006 were just as successful and critically acclaimed.
